For the third year in a row, Sharp Electronics has presented the best financial results in its 93-year history. For the fiscal year 2004, ending on 31 March, net sales of 12.6 billion showed an increase of 12.5% in relation to fiscal year 2003, while operating profit rose 24.1% to 741 million. Net Income saw a 26.6 % growth at 380 million.

These impressive results have been boosted by sales in the core business fields of LCD (+36.2%), LCD TVs (+77.7%) and Mobile Phones (+20.6%). As one of the most important pillars in Sharp s European business strategy, the solar product group also put in an outstanding performance, growing 60.5%. Sharp has been the world leader in Solar systems for the past five years, reaching an overall production capacity of 400 megawatts.

The new results mirror Sharp Electronics Europe s strategy to Double the Business by 2007 based on the three product pillars of LCD TV, Business Products and Solar Systems. Europe continues to be the main overseas market for Sharp with total sales of 2.0 billion and a growth rate of +23.3% compared to the previous year.

Commenting on the results, Paul Molyneux, Managing Director of Sharp Electronics (UK), said: These outstanding results prove that we re a heavyweight brand. We have very strong foundations, we re highly competitive, and we re in the market for the long term. Our core business areas, led by Aquos LCD TV, will drive our growth in the UK over the next three years, and dealers not already supporting our brand should seriously reconsider their decision.

Hans Kleis, CEO Sharp Electronics Europe, commented: With these excellent results Sharp has exceeded its financial targets for the year 2004. Our massive investment in ultramodern production facilities, specifically the LCD panel plant at Kameyama, Japan, provides us with a distinct advantage in productivity. This, together with our unique one-of-a-kind products, is the reason for our success.
