BERTL awards Sharp ‘Best of the Best’

BERTL (Digital Test Lab ), the leading independent authority on digital imaging performance and industry benchmark testing, has announced that Sharp s AR-M range has the Best Fully Configured Network Mono MFPs in the 30-50ppm category in 2002.

The award, which was announced by BERTL in May, is the result of detailed testing and analysis of approximately 200 products, during 2001. One of the most heavily contested segments of the market, the title recognises the performance of Sharp s AR-M range of modular products, which fought off stiff competition from other printer copier manufacturers. Sharp s AR-Ms offer network printing and copying at 35 and 45ppm respectively, with the option to include a powerful network scanning function.

When announcing the award, Carmel Rowley, Managing Director and CEO of BERTL explained, The fully configured versions of Sharp s AR-M350 and AR-M450 incorporate all the features and functions to support a busy workgroup / department. BERTL is particularly impressed with the flexibility of the devices, single pass duplex, essential for delicate or thicker originals, sophisticated scanning, for email and other purposes, physical mailbins for easier separation of individual or departmental work, strong copying, printing and above-average finishing capabilities. In short, Sharp is offering one of the few devices that can do almost everything in one small footprint.

The test report concludes that weighing heavily in its favour was its speed as a copier, which BERTL measured as the fastest 45cpm copier currently on sale in the case of the AR-M450. The model has the highest average copy speed of contemporary 45cpm systems due to efficient single pass scanning of double sided originals. It is the first copier based MFP to use single pass duplex scanning and one of the only copier-printers to interact efficiently with applications and the print menu.

Commenting on the announcement, Peter Mackie, Mono Product Marketing Manager said, The report provides independent recognition of the productivity, quality and versatility of the AR-M series. Because of their modularity, these products are a new departure both for Sharp and the industry as a whole users can purchase exactly the functions they require, and now they can be safe in the knowledge that they have purchased the best of the best on the market.

Since the completion of BERTL s tests, Sharp has further enhanced the AR-M range with the introduction of U (upgrade-able) and N (network-ready) versions. Available in the UK since May, the U versions are a perfect replacement for a standalone copier, as they include parallel printing for the user who occasionally prints, or who is upgrading from analogue for the first time.

Designed to complete a broad range of tasks, both U models offer outstanding features. These include folding; saddle-stitching, for pamphlets and brochures; and hole punching, for filing; all of which can be selected at purchase to give a tailor-made product. If network connectivity is required at a later date a simple upgrade raises the machine to a network-ready specification.

The products may also be specified in a network ready N format from new. The AR-M350N and AR-M450N share the modular design of the AR-M350U and AR-M450U and offer network printing as standard, plus scanning as both a free trial and as a simple upgrade. Combining network print with scanning to email, FTP or to a user s desktop, these machines offer a perfect gateway into document storage and retrieval systems including Sharp s SharpFind system.

The range also includes the AR-P350 and AR-P450 network printers. All models are available custom configured from Sharp resellers.
