Sharp has announced the launch of the ER-A420, an electronic cash register with a compact footprint, for the caf , bar, fast food restaurant or pub.

Available in the UK from June 2002, the ER-A420 is simple to operate with excellent functionality. The cash register has two RS232 ports as standard, which allows it to be connected on-line to a PC and printer, for all back office activity. Sales details may be downloaded or uploaded via the PC for efficient data management. To enable the most profitable areas of the business to be identified the ER-A420 has a maximum of 99 departments, a quantity usually associated with more expensive models.

Reporting is simple using the ER-A420. At the touch of a button authorised operators can access total sales figures, PLU sales by range, individual cashier sales and hour sales totals whenever required. The cash register may be programmed with up to 20 clerk codes allowing the owner/manager to monitor which items staff are selling and reducing the chance of fraud. A Time-in and Time-out function highlights staff punctuality.

The two line, 16 character alpha numeric operator display allows the operator to see clearly the information which has been entered, whilst a pop up display means the customer is also able to see the cost of the transaction.

The Sharp ER-A420 is fitted with a twin station thermal printer which offers fast, silent printing allowing the retailer to complete transactions more quickly, speeding the throughput of customers and shortening queues. The system is able to print sales items, the cashier s name, and store messages on 44.5mm wide paper at approximately 13.3 lines per second. Logos, downloaded from a PC, may also be included on the receipt, together with a message of up to six lines. A maximum of 1800 Price Look Up (PLU) buttons mean 1800 prices may be pre-programmed into the cash register, again saving time at the checkout.
