Sharp Electronics continues to lead the way in innovation with the launch of the ultra-portable and ultra-stylish Muramasa; the slimmest and lightest notebook PC in the world . Marrying slick design with performance and durability the product offers the optimum in mobility, connectivity and kudos embodied in a single product.

The Muramasa takes its name from an ancient Japanese swordsmith famous for his blades; it was said that if one of his swords was held in a stream they would cut leaves borne by the current clean in two.

Living up to its legendary namesake the modern notebook has been crafted with function and strength in mind. Only 16.6 millimetres high and weighing just 1.31Kg, the Muramasa (or PC-UM10) is small and light enough to slip into a briefcase or handbag. Its svelte form is enabled, amongst other things, by a unique new spring up keyboard which lowers itself when the notebook is closed.

The unit has an ultra- slim and flexible monocoque LCD panel which has been specifically designed for the PC-UM10 by Sharp. This enables the panel and its magnesium and aluminium cabinets to fit together as snugly as possible and keep the overall thickness of the LCD assembly to a minimum. The notebook PC has a robust frame with all its internal components mounted on a new and unique lightweight magnesium chassis. With its one-piece construction and innovative use of materials, the Muramasa is rigid and durable yet super-thin.

Beneath its stunning exterior lies a high-performance core that is centred around its Intel Mobile Pentium III ultra low voltage 600/300 MHz processor with SpeedStep technology. This technology offers new levels of performance for a range of multimedia, 3D and Internet applications by switching between two performance modes; maximum and battery optimised performance to reduce the drain on the battery.

The Speedstep processor works with the lithium ion rechargeable battery to deliver three hours of continuous battery life as a standard. An optional battery pack enables operating time to reach nine hours.

The Muramasa has 128MB RAM (SDRAM), 20 GB hard disk capability and 256KB on-die cache. With an internal 56K modem and LAN card for rapid access to the company network, a built-in USB hub and sound system, the notebook PC has everything a user could need for heavy- duty mobile computing.

Drawing on Sharp s heritage as a leader in LCD technology it has an anti-reflection, anti-glare Black TFT display with XGA resolution (1024 X 768 pixels). With up to 16 million colours, the LCD screen ensures stunning picture quality. The built-in ATI Rage Mobility-M graphic card with 4MB memory makes for rapid image build-up.
