Style and Substance - Sharp Launches 2 new Faxes

Sharp has unveiled two new thermal transfer faxes, the UX-385 and the UX-485 (distinctive for its built-in telephone answering machine) which launch in the UK during July 2001.

Designed with the home and small office user in mind, the new UX machines feature an ergonomic handset and keypad, with a neat display providing caller ID information, user instructions and a key to access the help function.

Announcing the launch, Mark Goldsmith, Product Marketing Manager for Faxes commented, The UX-385 and UX-485 will have a broad appeal, ranging from occasional users within the home, to small offices requiring the daily use of a fax plus use of an additional telephone and answering service.

Common to the two machines is a 30 page (512KB) memory, 60-sheet paper capacity and efficient 14.4 kbps modem with a transmission speed of 6 seconds. A ten page document feeder automatically conveys multiple pages through the fax, whilst 5 one touch and 40 two touch speed dials provide further time-savings.

The quality of transmitted and received faxes is high, thanks to 64 level halftone plus superfine, fine and standard resolution transmission modes, which are available at the touch of a key. The serial broadcasting facility, which can be programmed for up to 20 locations, together with the delayed send function allow the user to take advantage of off-peak transmission times, reducing costs. For night time reception, both models feature a silent receive mode to keep disturbance to a minimum.

Offering a complete telephone answering service, the UX-485 is able to record up to 24 minutes of messages and a 60-second personalised greeting. To maximise the benefits of this recording facility, remote access and memo recording have been incorporated into the machine.

The UX-385/485 can also be used as a back-up , small-scale copier, where low volume durable duplicates are required. Providing a useful additional office function, the new UX models are able to produce up to 99 consecutive copies.

The consumable for both machines is a 30m ink ribbon which gives fixed per-page costs and predictable replacement intervals. Changing the ribbon and replenishing the paper tray are simple, as both are easy to remove from the unit.

The UX-385 and UX-485 share a compact footprint, the chassis measures an impressive 343W x 313D x 312H (mm) with the paper tray fitted. Available in an elegant charcoal grey finish, the stylish UX models blend easily into any home or office environment.

The RRP is 129 including VAT for the UX-385 and 159 including VAT for the UX-485. Both models are available from office equipment and IT distributors and resellers.
