Flexible, functional and economical the new MFPs from Sharp

For small workgroups which are demanding increasing functionality from their office equipment, Sharp has the perfect answer with the launch of the AR-163 and AR-206 copier printer MFPs.

Launched during April 2001, the new models offer 16 and 20 pages per minute, copying network printing and faxing.

One of the key features of the new copiers is their easy to use consumables. Many of our competitors supply a combined cartridge containing a drum, developer and toner within one unit, which is then replaced when the toner is empty this can prove expensive and wasteful, since the drum and developer may not be exhausted, explained Product Marketing Manager for Mono Products, Peter Mackie.

He continued, Sharp s new consumables system has a dedicated cartridge for toner, which is replaced when empty. The drum and developer are replaced whenever the machine is serviced, typically around once a year depending on usage. This means that costs are reduced since nothing in the machine is replaced until it has been fully used.

Supplied with a large paper capacity, with the option to accommodate a maximum of 850 sheets within the AR-163, and 1,100 sheets in the AR-206, both machines are ideal for mid to high volume document production.

Part of the award winning AR series from Sharp, the AR-163 and AR-206 provide all the essential copier functions for the work place. The optional Single Pass Feeder (SPF) will automatically copy one set of up to 30-sheet originals. By adding an Electronic Sorting Option, the SPF becomes an Automatic Document Feeder for multiple sets.

The AR-206 can be fitted with the Reversing Single Pass Feeder to enable it to automatically feed up to 30 sheets of either single-sided or double-sided originals. Each set is sorted in order, saving users time when separating the copies. The AR-163 and AR-206 are equipped with a range of functions to ensure all copies are produced of the highest quality. Text and photographs are analysed to ensure the ideal contrast levels are maintained.

Where required the AR-163 and AR-206 also have the option to print and can be used in both PC and Mac environments. Each has an IEEE 1284 bi-directional interface and employs the latest PCL6 emulation, enabling users to print from Windows 95/98/Me and Windows NT 4.0/2000 systems. Postscript Level 2 emulation is also available. Both machines feature a 133MHz processor and 8MB memory, upgradable to 136MB for maximum printing productivity.

The optional Print Server Card for both the AR-163 and AR-206 supports 10BaseT/100BaseTX and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), for use with administrative software. Each can also support Peer-to-Peer networks for printing without a server.

Cost and space conscious offices can utilise the N-up function, which allows several pages to be printed on one sheet, whilst selection of the watermark command enables users to print a background such as Urgent , Confidential , Copy or Draft anywhere on the page, to identify the status of the document. The facility to off-set print ensures each job document is separated and can be easily identified for collection.

If true multi-functionality is required, the AR-163 and AR-206 can be upgraded with a Super G3 modem. Open books and even objects may be placed on the unit s platen and faxed, whilst large documents, such as spreadsheets or architectural plans may be sent without reduction to A4 first. If the receiving machine is not A3 capable the image size is reduced automatically.

The AR-163 and AR-206, priced from 2385 and 3425 are available from Sharp accredited resellers. For further information please contact the Sharp Customer Helpline on 0800 138 8879.
