Sharp shows the future of point of sale - Hospitality Week, NEC, Birmingham 22 25 January 2001

This post was published in our Sharp Corporation (Japan) category.

This year s Hospitality Show sees a number of innovations from Sharp Electronics, including the PC-based UP-5300 EPOS terminal and Waitermate, a wireless EPOS terminal designed to be carried by waiting staff. Along with these innovations will be a host of point-of-sale equipment including the highly successful UP-3300 and UP-5700 colour touch screen EPOS terminals.

UP5300 Smart enough for every detail

The UP-5300 combines a PC-based operating system with an adjustable 10.4 colour touch screen and a host of connectivity features. A superbly adaptable device, the UP-5300 is available with scanner, modem and software packages, ideal for demanding retail and hospitality installations.

Developed for the UP-5300 is Sharp Retail Plus, a complete software suite for retail environments. Scaleable to suit different store formats, Retail Plus can be used to manage up to 40 machines via a local area network. Providing detailed reports, business management tools and order and delivery management, Retail Plus equips the store manager with all the systems required to run a store.

UP-5700 Performs with flying colours

The eye-catching UP-5700 is proving exceptionally popular, with its large 10.4 back lit colour screen and touch system technology, for simple, error free communication.

Already installed and operational in a number of high profile locations from the 140 terminals in the Millennium Dome to the nation-wide caf chain Coffee Republic the UP-5700 has become an integral element within the total business solution.

The high product file capacity of up to 500,000 PLUs allows the UP-5700 to cope with the most rapidly expanding business. Its small foot print occupies minimal space while its durability ensures it withstands the harshest trading conditions.

Waitermate

Developed for today s customer focused restaurant and hospitality industry, Waitermate is a sophisticated handheld wireless EPOS system that allows orders to be taken and completed using RF (Radio Frequency) communication. Operating with Sharp s UP-5700 and UP-5300 EPOS terminals, Waitermate brings the EPOS terminal to the waiter rather than forcing the waiter to walk to a waiter station , dramatically improving the efficiency of waiting staff.

Each transaction is entered onto the terminal by staff when taking each order. The order is automatically printed out on the kitchen printer, allowing waiting on staff to continue taking orders whilst the kitchen staff begin preparing each meal.

Once the order has been recorded on the handheld there is no need to re-enter the transaction at the till the table is opened on the Waitermate and laid away on the system until it is time to cash off. In some instances it may not be necessary for staff to visit the EPOS terminal at all, saving time and improving efficiency.

UP-3300 A unique touch of colour

First in the UK market, the UP-3300 is a parameter driven terminal with a full-colour touch-screen EPOS terminal aimed at the hospitality sector.

A common-sense, menu driven structure to the programming software makes for speedy installation and set-up of the UP-3300, while Sharp s intuitive application software ensures the terminal is easy to use.

Its small footprint and optional integral thermal printer give silent high-speed printing of receipts, orders and reports while making efficient use of valuable counter space. The 10.4 inch adaptable colour touch screen - using colour to group products together, helps operators to enter transactions quickly and accurately.

Powerful restaurant features incorporated into the unit include Table Transfer and Bill Splitting to enable operators to offer efficient service to customers.

The UP-3300 has extensive communications options to address a broad range of business requirements. In-line communications allow up to 16 terminals to be linked together on the same network, while on-line communications and an electronic journal capability allow the UP-3300 to be connected to back-office software for sales analysis reports and input to accountancy packages.

Fully Euro compatible, the Sharp UP-3300 terminal provides a full range of currency tendering options.

Sharp end-to-end solutions

Whatever the point of sale requirements, from a simple cash register to a sophisticated network of colour touch-screen machines, Sharp products provide a solution. Paired up with Sharp proprietary software packages, and connecting to a variety of third party software packages, these provide a valuable tool for both operator and manager.
